Mage Nangi (The sister song) Official Video

Mage Nangi (The sister song)- Ranidu from raniduofficial on Vimeo.

The song was a special song that I released a while back but I always knew I couldn’t just let it die without a video. It deserved a video and what a video this turned out to be!!! It is the first Sri Lankan video to be shot in San francisco and Sri Lanka. The stories are so real and powerful based on significant events that impacted Sri Lankan culture and life in the past decade.

The first story is based on a brother that went to the war and made the ultimate sacrifice for our motherland. The video shows his sister holding onto the memories of her brother and his simple life.80,000 Sri Lankans have died in this conflict and it is my hope that we will see a lasting peace and a united Sri lanka soon.We should never forget the sacrifices of our brave soldiers who keep us safe….

The second is the story of a sister who sacrificed her youth for her family and went to Bahrain to earn money but never returned to see the fruits of her labor. It is well known that this is the fate of a lot of young Sri lankan women who have no option but to be the breadwinner for their family and are subject to much hardship including battery and deceit by their employees in the middle east…

The third is the story of a brother who saved his sister from the tsunami but lost his own life in the process. 37000 Sri Lankans lost their lives that fateful day and we should never forget the hardships their families face to this day…

Intertwined within the video is the relationship between my sister and I and me reminiscing about our childhood and the good times :) I think its one of the best videos I have even been a part of and want to thank Indika Wickramaratne for coming up with a great concept that complemented the emotions of the track. Also want to thank Pete Furia for making the shoot in San Francisco possible.
